Choosing A Domain Name
When choosing a domain name there are a few things that you must take into consideration.
Now there are alot of people that will say that you must choose a domain name to be keyword rich, or it cant have hyphens (well you can but better not to), and it has to be a Dot Com domain, or .co.uk (depending where you are). I am one of these people and I going to tell you that how to choose a domain name is very simple once you follow a few simple rules.
I personally have lots of little niche blogs that are very keyword specific and I also have websites that are not. You see the big boys of the internet (Google) love relevancy. They love relevany in your website name, they love it in your website content, your Meta Description, Title Tags, Meta Keywords, you get the idea.
But then how come a website that is a persons name can then get ranked really highly for chosen keywords if the website name has nothing to do (apart from they might be an expert at it) with the keywords being used?
… because choosing a domain name is only a small part of the equation that is going to help you with your ‘Google Sting’.
Right, so back to the task at hand, I could go into a long long article about what needs to be done once we choose the domain name, but thats a whole different kettle of fish.
So lets get back to the task at hand and choosing a domain name that is going to rock.
- Brain storm a list of related keywords in your niche.
- Once you have a list of about ten, go to Google Adwords keyword tool
- Put each keyword into the keyword tool and click search
- Next of all sort them into levels of Global Monthly search volume
- See which phrases make sense (never use half sentences)
- take these phrases to Godaddy.com and do searches on your phrases
- Pick your domain name
- Buy it
Thats how simple it is to choose a good domain name. Don’t bother with all that fuss about, oh you must do this and you must do that, it’s a bit of a waste of time really.
Choosing a domain name is not rocket science so dont listen to the nonsense and go out and do it.
