How To Set Up A Wordpress Blog

In the last section of setting up a wordpress blog we had gotten to step 3, where you had just changed your DNS to hostmonster. So we continue on with step 4.

4. When this is completed you must login to your CPanel of your hostmonster account. Once inside the CPanel go to the ‘Domains’ tab and click on ‘Add on Domains’

5. Click the tab that says: ‘Use a domain that is not already associated with your account.’ and enter the name of the domain that you bought from Godaddy. Then scroll to the bottom of the page and click ‘Add Domain’

6. Once this has been created you will need to go to the software /services section in your CPanel and click on the icon that says ‘Simple Scripts’.

7. Once inside simple scripts, under the heading: ‘Script List’ Click on the ‘Wordpress’ Icon. On the next page click the green button that says ‘Install Now >

8. Once on the next page, under the drop down menu that says: ‘Where would you like Wordpress installed?‘ choose the domain where you would like to install your wordpress blog. Name the site then (If You Want To) you don’t need to, then click the two tabs under legal information and click ‘Complete

9. On the next page it will give you all the details you need to know. It will look like this:

10. Then just simply visit your Admin URL, and enter your username (which will be admin) and enter your password and then enter your first ever wordpress blog.

11. Now once you have got your blog set up you are most likely going to want to change the look at feel of your blog to suit what you like. To do this you can do a search on google for ‘Free Wordpress Themes’. A theme is what the design of your website is called. On my blog http://www.ciarandoyle.com I use a theme called ‘Flexsqueeze‘, but you will ost likely want to find one that suits you better.

12. Simply visit http://wordpress.org/extend/themes for some great themes that will really get your blog off to a great start.

13. Once you have chosen your theme you will need to download it from the website to your computer so that you will be able to upload it to your blog.

14. In order to upload the wordpress theme to your blog you are going to need to be able to access your websites FTP, and to do this I use a piece of software called Filezilla, which you can pick up here. I use the (Recommended) version for my blog, you should too unless you have an Apple Computer, in which case you would use the Mac OS X download.

15. Once you have downloaded Filezilla and set it up you are going to need to get access to your website. Remember earlier I asked you to keep some details safe so we could use thema  little later. Well now we need the username and password that you saved from earlier.

This is all that we have time for today but look out for the next installment on how to set up a wordpress blog in a few days. It is going to be jam packed with some cool tips and tricks that will make your blog explode onto the scene.
