How To Set Up A WordPress Blog
Setting up wordpress can be a bit of a maze if you dont know what you are doing. There are so many plugins and widgets and many more amazing and wonderful tips and tricks that can really help your blog explode from the word go.
So what are the first steps you need to take to set up a great wordpress blog?
1. You need to buy a website. I get mine from godaddy as I think they are the easiest and best. A .com domain name will probably cost you about $9.99, but you can find coupon codes all over the internet to get about 2 bucks knocked off the price of it. Just do a quick search for Godaddy coupon codes and you will find one. Then after you have selected your domain name it will come to the billing screen, just simply enter the code that you find into the coupon code section and press update. (Sometimes you might need to check a few different codes before you get one that works). For everything I buy on the internet I always do a search for coupon codes, it’s a real good way to save a bunch of cash.
2. The easiest way that you can do this is to get yourself a great hosting package. The one i use and I would recommend it so much is Hostmonster. Hostmonster has a backend system called a CPanel which I feel is an absolute must for anyone in Internet Marketing for ease of use. You will get a domain included within the hosting package, but I like to keep this as a backoffice domain that i do not use.
When you set up this hosting account you will get some details that you are going to need to keep in a safe place as we are going to use them in the near future. Your hosting account will be given a USERNAME & PASSWORD. Keep them safe!
3. Once you have your website and hosting in place, you are going to need to change your Domain Name Servers (DNS) from godaddy to hostmonster. The domain name servers for Hostmonster are as follows:
ns1.hostmonster.com
ns2.hostmonster.com
To change the DNS to point to Hostmonster you must log in to your godaddy account. Under the drop down menu cann ‘DOMAINS’ you will see a tab that says ‘MY DOMAINS’. Click that and you will be taken to a screen that will show you what domains you own. Once in that page, click the box beside the domain you want to change your DNS. Then click the icon called ‘Nameservers’ and a new screen will pop up.
Click the button that says "I host my domains with another provider" and then enter:
‘ns1.hostmonster.com’ in the Nameserver 1 box &
‘ns2.hostmonster.com’ in the Nameserver 2 box and then press OK
It will take a few minutes for this to take effect.
This is only the beginning, so get stuck into this and in a few days I will have the follow up to guide you through the next steps. Until then.

Hey Ciaran,
Great website, easy on the eyes. A thorough and intersting read. I learned alot.
You piqued my curiosity though, with your comment to stash the extra domain you recieved from Hostmonster, “I like to keep this as a backoffice domain that i do not use”. What does the term ‘backoffice’ mean in connection with this domain? And, why would you not want to use it?
Thanks for the great info…

Hi Andrew,
Glad you liked what you read. WordPress is a brilliant platform and also hosting with Hostmonster is very good.
)
What I mean for backoffice domain is a domain name that is your master domain and every domain registered on your account after that will be registered as an addon domain under neath the master domain. Eg:
Master domain: http://www.healthspiral.com (don’t know why i picked that
Addon Domain: truehealthsource@healthspiral.com
Do you understand?
In terms of not using it, its just my personal preference and have used it in the past and found it alot easier to just have it seperated.
I hope this helps, if not answer be back,
Cheers Andrew
