Finding a profitable affiliate marketing niche doesn’t have to be complicated.
The thing is, people overthink it massively, I was so guilty of this, and it makes it seem harder than it actually is.
This is the first thing you must do before starting an affiliate marketing business.
A quick but important note: If you choose a niche that you like, it’ll be easier to make money fast.
Plus, it’s easier to face the challenges in your business when they come if you choose a niche you love – and believe me, they’ll come if you’re serious about your online business.
That’s why it’s so important.
To help you choose the right niche, we’ll do some affiliate marketing niche research by going over the different forms of niches, starting with:
- Trends, and…
A simple rule… You can make money as an affiliate marketer by offering solutions to people’s problems.
To get the most benefits from this post, I want you to keep an open mind and try to think about some of the things we’re going to talk about today.
As a beginner, you’ll be tempted to go for a broad niche, but that would be so difficult because you’ll be facing top competition.
That’s why there’s a section on narrowing down niches. You’ll learn how to dig a little deeper into a niche to find a profitable sub-niche that you can target, dominate, and make money.
By the end of this training, you’ll know the different types of niches and how to make sure people are making money with them.
So let’s get started now.
What is an Affiliate Marketing Niche?
A Niche in affiliate marketing simply means a part or segment of a huge market.
For example, “losing belly fat for women” is a niche within the weight loss industry.
Choosing a niche is super important for a couple of reasons:
- Enables you to nail down your target audience and market to them specifically.
- You can boost your earnings because since you know your audience, you know exactly what products to recommend.
- When your nail down your audience and offer value to them, they’re going to see you as an expert in that field, which means they will trust you more and buy more products from you in the future.
3 Questions To Determine Which Kind Of Niche To Enter
You need to ask yourself these three questions to determine the best affiliate marketing niche;
The benefit of each of these questions is to clarify what to focus on and which niche is the best fit…
This is very important if you are a complete beginner, and it can be fun too.
I recommend starting with something you know, at least for now, to get comfortable with the process.
If you don’t you might get to a point where you do not know what else to do with the niche or what content to create.
JUST A NOTE: Bookmark this page and come back to it. You can re-read this post if you do not understand everything or if you still have not found your niche.
3 Important Questions to Find Profitable Affiliate Marketing Niche
There are only three questions you can ask yourself to choose a good affiliate marketing niche, and they are;
- What are you actually interested in? (Because if you are not interested, you will not stick with it).
- Are people spending money in that niche?
- Are there products that you can promote?
For example, if we consider woodworking as our niche, you just need to ask yourself these 3 questions;
Are You Interested In the niche?
This question refers to what you like to do; are you fascinated with learning about woodworking? Or better yet, are you currently involved with woodworking projects? Maybe you have built some furniture.
Do you enjoy talking about it? If your answer to the above questions is yes, then congratulations, you are already on the right path.
How Do You Find Out If People Are Spending Money In Your Niche?
To find out if people are spending money in that niche:
- Do a quick search on Google or Amazon to see if there is a list of different magazines and books on that topic. If there are magazines, it usually means there is money being made in that niche.
- Check Google ads to see if marketers are willing to spend money targeting the audience in your niche.
- Check Tv ads and billboards.
This will give you a rough idea of how much people are willing to spend in your niche.
Are There Products To Promote?
Just search “woodworking affiliate programs” on Google, and as you can see below, there are lists of affiliate programs that you can sign up with right away and start promoting. This process works for almost any niche you can think of.
If you could find a product in your niche using this method, then you better choose another niche when you still can.
4 Types Of Niches
There are different types of niches that you should consider to better understand which niche is suitable for you as a beginner;
What are your hobbies? What do you like to do?
Find out what these things are, they can be a gold mine. Many people make money from their hobbies… As Mark Twain said, “Find a job you enjoy and you’ll never work a day in your life”.
So you pick a topic you like and enjoy talking about and write about it.
Of course, we know the stories of kids who love to play video games and how they managed to build a steady online income in the gaming niche.
Other examples include fishing, gardening, chess, golf, Lego, etc.
I think every person in the world has a hobby.
Maybe it’s Lego… as we mentioned above. For example, this Eiffel Tower set with 3428 pieces sells for $1455.
And not only LEGO but there are other similar products that can be sold… Things like;
Star Wars Star Destroyer and Batman are absolutely huge products to sell, people love this kind of stuff so it can be a profitable niche example.
This is similar to hobbies, but a little different… You have things like going to the gym, fitness, yoga, etc. These are the things that you have a passion for.
If you are interested in kickboxing, the UFC has an affiliate program where you can promote products from the UFC store and earn commissions.
And there’s also Reebok Fitness, if you are interested in fitness, you can promote some of the Reebok fitness products.
There are also eco-living programs, with a product called Life Pack, a backpack made from recycled material from the ocean.
There is also AI Tutor, a math product for students. You can write blog posts about these products and recommend that people buy them.
Education is a really good market to get into.
A friend of mine wants to make a genius out of his kid, so he spends thousands on piano lessons, science club, and Chinese lessons.
Parents are willing to spend money if they believe it is a wise investment for their children. To find out what you have a passion for and use the 3 questions we listed above to find out if there is a market for it.
When you think of problems, you think of things like disease and health, obesity, weight loss, diabetes, etc.
I know a guy who has made millions selling books about breakthroughs in medicine and alternative therapies, such as how to reverse diabetes naturally.
The bottom line is: if you can help someone solve a problem, you get paid for it.
For example, you can partner with the best-known name in the weight loss industry, Weight Watchers, and make sales simply by connecting people who want to lose weight with them.
What are the most up to date trends? What’s popular right now? You can pick up the trend and get in while it’s hot and earn some affiliate commissions.
For example, in the health and fitness industry, there is an explosion of different diets, like the Paleo diet.
If you are interested in dieting and losing weight, take advantage of this opportunity to make real cash while doing what you love. You must choose niches that you love or it will be difficult for you to succeed.
The Truth About Being An Authority
People say that you need to be an authority in your niche, but in reality, you just need to give people what they want. It’s good to be an authority, but it’s not necessary, especially as a beginner.
There are many people who make a lot of money but are not experts in their subject matter. Being an authority helps with your credibility, but it takes time and consistent hard work.
For now, focus on providing your audience with the best value you can give them, and they will begin to see you as an authority.
The 3 Types Of Products That Every Affiliate Has To Choose From.
In every niche, there are different types of products you should look for, and these are;
- Information products (and this can be the most profitable niche for affiliate marketing)
- Physical products
- Software products.
They are any product that’s informational, instructional, or educational in nature that can only be accessed online.
For example, there is a program called Calf and Heifer Management. The course is designed for dairy farmers who want to increase their knowledge about calf and heifer management.
If you have this knowledge, you can turn it into an affiliate website.
You can also offer physical products, which are products that you can see and touch. This product is important because some of your audience might prefer products that they can touch with their hands.
You can find these products on websites like AliExpress or Amazon, for example, Easy Koi Pond. These types of products usually pay a high commission.
Software products are software that the users have to pay for a license to be able to use them.
You can make a lot of money promoting software products. They usually have high commissions, and sometimes they can be even the most profitable affiliate marketing niche products to join. They also sometimes offer monthly or yearly recurring commissions.
They’re a great way to earn commissions, especially in this time when more and more people coming online.
You’ve probably heard of some of these e-commerce hosting platforms like WooCommerce, Squarespace, Magento, Big Commerce, and Shopify.
Clickfunnels is another great software for creating sales funnels, and finally, web hosting platforms like Bluehost, Siteground, inMotion, HostGator, and A2 Hosting.
There are more software products, but it depends on the niche you’re in.
The Best Way To Multiply Your Commission
You can maximize your profit by simply selling a digital product and then upselling the customer to a physical product… This way you can make the most money.
For example, you have a website called Golf influence, you find a program called Inner Golf Coach, and you pair it with a golf swing analyzer.
So you have found an information product and you have connected it to a physical product.
A Simple Process to Find Top Affiliate Marketing Niches
This is the secret sauce, which is how you build a profitable affiliate marketing niche website. Once you have decided on a niche, it will usually be a broad one, and it would not be wise to target it, otherwise, you will be competing with the top brands.
So what do you do?
You need to narrow down the niche… So you start with the main niche, say golf. Then you narrow it down further.
For example, you can narrow the niche down to “Golf clubs”. That’s still a huge niche with a lot of competition.
In order to solve this, we would narrow it down further to “Left-handed Golf clubs”. But you can narrow it down even further and target only women.
So Your sub-niche then becomes “Left-handed Golf clubs for women”. We call this two-level down thinking. The main goal is not to compete with the top players in the market, but to find a low competition niche that we can dominate.
Find a sub-niche where you can become the go-to person when clients need advice or even services. For example, there are many accountants who need hosting.
You can become a hosting expert for accountants or a hosting provider for fitness trainers. Even better, you take two markets and merge them. It’s very profitable and very easy to dominate. Take a look…
Let us say your main niche is accounting. You can narrow it down to CPA accounting, and you narrow it down further to get CPA Christian accounting.
Do you think Christian accountants would like to work with you?
I think so…
Another one is “How to play guitar”, that’s a pretty broad niche, we can narrow it down further to “How to play guitar with long nails”.
You can see what we are doing with that: We are trying to find the sweet spot that we can speak to directly and build trust.
We can narrow that niche down even further to “How to play guitar with long nails for beginners”. That’s exactly how to find a profitable affiliate marketing niche that you can target with low competition.
So which niche do you choose?
Do you go with the money or the hyper-trend or what you know?
As I said before, as a beginner in affiliate marketing, you need to go with what you know. This makes it easier for you to learn the process and as you become more confident and your skills grow, you can target a broader niche.
The goal is to grow these sites to the point where they make money and then sell them. Look at these websites that were built not too long ago, over a year, and sold for thousands of dollars.
This website is about underwater welding, is a year old, and sold for $15,000.
What about this one, about Vegan recipes, it’s three years old and sold for almost $40,000.
The Trendy resumes website, again, is two years old and sold for $70,000.
But my goal for you would be to set up one of these websites each month. So at the end of the year, you would have 12 websites that you could sell for different amounts.
Since you have built these websites, they can continue to bring in revenue, it is now up to you to decide if you want to sell them or not.
